Question about the valet key...

So I bought a new (used) E36 today, and it came with just one key. It's a grey(not black) one. There is no keyless entry.

I can't lock the trunk or the glovebox, but I can lock/unlock the 2 doors. This is the valet key I have right?

Has anyone had a master key cut from a valet key? Wondering the best course of action here...

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

^ In my hotel we get those. If gray, it's for sure it. Many E46 used to come with them.

Went to the dealer today and purchased a second key. It's the one second from the left(master). Should be here in 5-10 business days.

$92.16 shipped, cut and taxed.

Does everyone elses valet key activate their central locking system? Mine is not functioning at the moment. Hoping the master key will resolve this.

if you are stuck in the meantime, I can cut a master key from your valet. It won't start the car from the chip in the key (immobilizer) but will work in the glove box and trunk.

PM me for your sidewinder (laser cut) key blank and cutting needs. Have OEM pre-ews keys and replacement shells. Can do (almost) all BMWs up to 2008!

I have aftermarket master keys (just look different than the originals) cut for $40 each. It would be great to have a spare if you lock the keys in the car or something but just won't start it without the chip from a working key. I can cut them pretty much anytime we arrange a time, I'm in Oakville. PM me for contact info.

Todd

Some people dont want to give out a master key when they go for a dinner where they do valet. So you give him the valet key and you keep the master.

also, a black key that looks like a valet is a master key (these are cheaper, 58$)

(also, you can wire in a remote which will open/close all the doors, or you can just tap into the wire in the trunk lid to lock the trunk)
