battery or starter?

i have a 96 328i..ive ahd it for a year and its been good .
i drove it last winter. it started fine every start.
but yesterday at work my battery was cold dead. so i had it boosted
and i got home and in about 2 hours i tried starting it again
then it was dead. but i kept turning my key and somehowww...
battery power started to kick in out of no where. like every turn u can hear it comming to live more more and more. and i drove for like an hour and after that i never had that problem again. battery starts like b4.
( i still ahve the original bmw battery) idunno if its been changed b4 or its the battery from 1996 )
any idea wat the problem was and wat problem it will give me?

to me it sounds like the battery, I would change it. Most batteries cannot withstand cold weather. I have the same problem.

its the battery...i had the exact same problem.It will slowly get to the point where it wont have enough power to start the car.

funny i have the same problem does canadaian tire not charge batterys ,iv had mine 3yrs now should it be dyin ,oh bought it a the dealership

ya i think its the battery cuz it was -12 the day it hapened
shud i invest on a deep cycle battery cuz i have 2 10" sub as well.

but it sounds like its dead but i keep turning and turning the ignition and the battery slowly comes to live LOL...kinda funny.
