they don't.. on the other hand, when they SELL it, then if person who does not pass the next safety...they can have a lawsuit
however
a. they have to prove that there was no intervening damage to the car that will not now pass a legit safety
b. they have to sue the guy that sold them the car who can in turn, counter-sue the garage that gave them the safety if they can prove 'a.
The car I have already passed safety @ canadian tire, I have the document, but I want another one.
Most importantly, I'm keeping the car, not selling it so there's no potential lawsuit. When I do sell it, I"m taking it back to the same lenient mech (thought I plan on fixing every prob before that happens) to get the safety so that the seller can in no way, sue the previous mech.

Actually that's not the whole story. You can very easily get caught for a bum safety. If you were involved in a accident in which someone was hurt, or worse killed. and there was an investigation and the accident was found to be a mechanical defect, the cops, and/or insurance investigators would quickly see that the car was recently safetied, and would trace all that back to the shop that did the safety. Worse case scenario, the shop gets nailed and the owner goes to jail, and if it's found that you knowingly got a bum safety, then you go to jail too.

i work at crappy tire as an apprentice so i cant do safety, but i know for a fact they wont care about you're light problem. I did my safety there and i pulled my airbag and abs and check engine lights and passed with flying colors(most of suspension parts, bushing and breaks are brand new though so not much that can fail)
