Where are the E39 tourings?

Coming to the point in life where there may be an addition in the family. My ultimate goal is to find an E39 M5 touring... or I'd even settle for a 540 touring... but where are they? Do owners hold on to them for dear life? The E60 touring just doesn't appeal...

Checkmarks...

1. Speed. Check.
2. Style. Check.
3. Hauls a lot of shit. Check.

With two 1s (ones a vert!) and a 5 without folddown seats, our Ikea runs have dried up. We used to use her Focus ZX3 as the hauler. With possibly a little one on the way, I'd love to move to my final 'settling' car... an E39 touring with power. Best of all worlds. No nanny SUV for me (or X6)!

There are probably 1-2 converted e39 M5 wagons.
There are probably 1-2 OEM E39 M5 wagons in Germany that were given to execs.
Chances of obtaining any of these are SLIM.

Just get a 540 Wagon, they are far and between and demand quite the price though, more options in the US.

They are out there but not too many E39 wagons imported into Canada. Here is one I found on Auto Trader, 1999 was the big year for E39 Tourings.

LOL. The 1 vert will most likely be going next year if the youngling comes along. If a viable 540 touring comes by, the sedan will go as well. She keeps her 135.

I was inspired by the wonderful blue facelifted touring that passed me the other day. Few and far beyond.

I"ve seen a few Tourings and from what I gather the milage on most is going to to "up there" as the original buyers actually used them for day to day utility. I see this as a good thing if the owners kept up with the maintenance as my car seems to run better the more I drive her.

My understanding is that there are no e39 touring M5's. Apparently the M differential did not fit. I did see a spy photo of a 'suspected' one, but hard to say what happened to it. Another thing to consider is that the 528it was available with a stick, but the 540iT was not - which is too bad.

I'm also on the hunt - I love my e34 touring, but the e39 just looks better to me.

I just imported a 2003 525iT from Philadelphia in mid-Sept (while the US exchange rate is still great). Only 80,000 km. Surprised that it is not sluggish as some may suggest. Hey, when gas is at $130 I don't even want to drive my 330 cabrio.

Fixed all the dings / dents, tinted and the next step is replace it with the M-tech bumpers.

Dammit. Only avail in 328. Why not 335 like the E60?
