89 525i

Hey guys,

I'm leaning towards purchasing an 89 525i. So far the body looks good, interior is in good shape, engine and tranny is strong. Now the only things need fixed is this noise that comes from the alternator pulley that needs replaced ( according to the owner), im thinking could it be the water pump and not the alternator? Also when we test drove the car the rear end has a slight shake when it goes over 90 - any ideas what could it be?

Also, for the experienced e34 drivers anything else I should look for before buying this car.

Any info would be appreciated.

rear end shimmy could be a number of things: subframe bushings, dogbones, unbalanced wheels, missing hubcentric rings (non oem wheels) or even a driveshaft vibration.

89 525 is the poor cousin of the E34 series with the M20 engine. Nothing wrong with it, durable and proven but it is underpowered for the E34's weight. Make sure the timing belt has been changed and water pump also.
