Finally bought an e39

Well ive finally just brought an 01 540i M package home. Black interior, tints, and OEM 18" m5 rims came with it and also an extra set of brand new winter tires plus rims. Ive wanted this car for such a long time but couldnt afford it. I love it, its got the power whenever i need it, driving experience and comfort is like no other. I think ill hold onto this one for quite a while...

Theres only one thing really annoying me with it, when you put the key into ignition it moves the steering wheel up or down depending on the memory setting, but when it moves it makes this loud noise like somthing needs to be lubricated inside. The previous owner said he couldnt figure where it needs to be lubricated or if that will even solve the job. I was wondering if there is a way to just make it stay in one position at all times, would that involve me pulling the fuse or is there another way?

Thanks for your help! here are some pics.

to answer your question, if you are just using one key, and you set Memory 1 with that key in ignition, it shouldn't re-adjust steering wheel everytime u get in car? g'luck

car looks sickkkk

I tried doing that but still nothing, i think its cuz i have other memory settings set (freinds were messing around). Is there a way to set everything back to default? would pulling the fuse and then putting it back in do the trick?
Thanks!

Congrats on the new ride!

As for the steering wheel - yes a lubing up is all it needed. The steering wheel on (all?) E39s tilt up when you turn the car off and tilt back down when you turn the car on, to your preset position. It goes that by design to help you get in and out of the car easier.

Really? Mine doesn't go up when I turn the car off, just stays in the same position, but I like it that way. I think it would be annoying.

depends on the position of the steering wheel. Theres a position that it will move to to make it easier to get in and out of the car, but if you already have it high enough then I guess it might not have to move. Both my e39's do it.
