I love wagons and yes I'm seriously considering it. I seem to have grossly underestimated the amount of oil and labour that an E39 with an M62 requires...stupid torque.

Dammit, I was hoping no one else would notice this one......

And I agree with you ont he 540I, but damn, they are seductive when they are running right....or OK.

Yeah, I still love my car. I just hate all the maintenance that snuck up on me right after I bought it...

Valley pan, I think. I just replaced the CCV, hopefully it'll buy me some time so i can scrape up the cash to do it in the garage....I've been reading and it's something like an 8 hour job for DIY. Probably more since I'll be tackling it myself.

Nope, never did valley pan gaskets on bimmers.
I'll be there to help and remind myself why I shouldn't buy 540s.

That's the one I used.

Use gasket tack to hold the new IM gaskets in place -- even then, one of mine dropped and misaligned.

You will HATE the water manifold part of the job.

Might be a good chance to swap in the IM from the 4.0 V8 (I think that's the right one) -- I read somewhere that it opens up the top end without the associated low end loss of using the M62 manifold.
