Knock on wood, but my water cooled alternator is still going, and so is my 10 year old OEM battery. 
Edit: 11 years old next month

Battery crapped on me today...
carjoe's E39 has started a chain of battery/alternator failure....  
So, interstate and OEM are about same price, $180. Maybe someone has a used battery?

I've always had battery problems. I just get a booster pack and deal with it.

Check Crappy Tire - their batteries are done by Interstate, and have yet to fail me when I didn't do something like leave one hooked up forever and let it discharge too far.
