Zarbat, education first buddy.
Speaking of boxes...Jay: remember that monster of a box you gave me for a coffee? I still have it, never used it as a speaker. A table in the garage, weight in the trunk of the Tracker and now it's weight in the trunk of the E39. Fits perfectly too. If I had the energy to actually hook it up....
BTW: Alternator took a dump this morning. Awesome.

I'm definitely interested in this car though, but no reply from seller, hmmh...
If the E36 was sold this car would be gone in heartbeat, oh well, I'll repost the ads and worst case, I'll get the E39 in Summer!
Sucks about the alternator, is it water-cooled? If its anything like E36 alternators, you can just replace the carbon brushes.

Meh, a better one will come along.
The alt is water cooled. I dropped it off after work. We'll see what the damage is tomorrow. I don't have the time to do it myself. I've got family coming to stay over the holidays. Gotta get the damn basement finished...

Plumbing for the bathroom and a couple of ceiling tiles. Nothing huge, just getting fed up of being down there and not enjoying it...

That sucks when a project comes to the point that you don't like it.

It's just tedious now. Back when I started the basement, it seemed easy peezie...now I'm doing the detail stuff like cutting ceiling tiles and connecting the shitter and sink. Oh, and I just remembered, I have some closet doors to hang as well as trim for the bathroom. Argh!
Oh, found an alternator for $350 with core charge. Yay. My mech couldn't find one for less than $800.

What about carbon brushes? Don't E39s have them like E36s do?

Beats me. Maybe the 6 cyl. E39. All I know is that when my parts guy found that the alt was water cooled, he laughed at how much he thought it would cost...

Air cooled E39 alternators FTW!
The rest of the issues that go with having a 13-year-old car FTL.
