ICV"s been removed & cleaned... twice already. If it's dirty again then there's a much more serious problem!!

I'm going to get a fuel pressure guage later this week & check the pressure pre & post rail. It's on the list.

Already tried disconnecting the MAF; totally undriveable!! Haven't tried unplugging the o2 yet; but it's worth a try...

No vanos rattle.... cause there's no vanos...

It's so weird that it only happens at that certain RPM range. wonder what sensors engage/disengage in that area... might help to better pinpoint the troublespot.

update... not positive; but rather puzzling

Okay, so on Infamou$'s suggestion I crawled under the car & unplugged the o2 sensor to see what effect that would have on the car. The issue with the lobing rpm is still present; so no difference there... so maybe the o2 isn't working?

but the more curious thing: no CEL with the o2 sensor disconnected???? Now how in the hell does that work? I was reading something on bf.c about obd2 cars not throwing the CEL, but the computer was storing codes that could be read with a Peake tool. Is there anything that I can do similarily with my obd1? The only thing that I read in the Bentley was about the gas pedal trick which is not showing anything.

Also today I noticed that the car seemed to be backfiring through the intake alot more than before (both with the o2 unhooked & without). And I also think that there is a definate misfire throughout the entire rpm range; although it's much more noticeable at lower rpm's. I've metered all the coils & they show in the correct range; but maybe they could still be bad?

i had faulty coils before, they checked out good with the meter, i replaced them anyways, the backfiring went away! As for the no CEL, i had that issue, never got it sorted out, but it was due to faulty wiring

I would try changing your 02 sensor.. now your CEL light does come on when you first turn on the ignition right?? If you never see it on.. then you're gonna want to check the bulb!

It might be the rubber boots on the coils, check those and replace with new.

I still believe it's the computer.
My 92 318is would shut off with no warning. I would try to start it for an hour and nothing. Next morning she fired up and no check engine light or anything. This went on for 2 Years. After $5,000 in repair bills from BMW I changed the computer and never had a problem since. I would try borrowing a ECU from a friend and see what happens.

To me it sounds like a bad connection to your ECU

Then it has to be a connection problem with the ECU.. How to find out I don't know.

However the dealer can install a unit into your car, this unit monitors every function. When your car dies you press a button which stores all of the data.
By this they can find out what the problem is.

We did this to our Neon about 4 years ago.

Your Check engine light comes on if the TPS is faulty. Having said that, anything is possible.

TPS does throw a code if it's faulty; cause I've tried running the car without & it's alot worse. And I've also metered the TPS & it's good: steady resistance increase with increase in throttle.

So tonite I took the car for a drive, with the new fuel filter installed (I had it in the garage; figured I'd throw it in for kicks). no changed as I figured there wouldn't be.

One thing I did notice tonite is if the car is coasting at 1500-2000 rpms(ie: no throttle at all) the car is fine; no backfiring, bucking etc. But the minute I touch the pedal even the slightest bit, then the car resumes it's evil behavior.

hmmmm....
