Two weeks ago I had solid transmission mounts made up in aluminum just in time for the previous track day I went to at Mosport. I wanted to fuh raze the shit outta the car so I figured this was going to the next level lol. As soon as I put them in, the car vibrated and shook like crazy, especially at higher RPMs. The engine sounded totally different resonating throughout the car, and it rattled a lot of stuff in the interior.
But knowing me, I thought it was the coolest shit ever. Until today...
Looking around, I noticed a crack in the rear housing of the transmission. DAMN IT!!!11 I thought about it for awhile... I guess the torque of the motor (still on stock mounts BTW) eventually got the best of the transmission being mounted solid and as always, somethings gotta give, and in this case it was the transmission. Dohh!!
SO... today instead of fixing my door locks as planned, I busied myself to learn how to take a transmission apart. I found a junk, beat to hell transmission in the back that came from a parts car and decided to bring that inside and go to town on that. For the first 15mins I was like
then I started to get it. When I got the front section off, it became apparent why the tranny was lunched. This is what happens when you run it dry, out of oil...
Metal bit and busted bearing everywhere
The final stage. I finally get my rear housing... but thats next weeks project. But I am ecstatic to say that I did that all myself
MORAL OF THE STORY
: DO NOT put solid transmission mounts in if you don't already have solid motor mounts...
OH and a teaser for you e30 guys
