did the vanos seals and thermostat on sat, i would say its not hard, just time consuming because you have to remove alot of bolts but thats a given, i would its easy to medium for me, the last time i worked on a car was two years ago and nothing to do with the engine.. just read the DIY over and over while wait for the parts..

thanks

i had mine shipped to the stats and picked it after shipping was fast, you need other parts like valve cover gasket, check the site for all the parts, any m54 should get this done no matter the mileage. the higher the more to get it done.

sonspot,

I want to do it for my E46, but on the site it only shows "Double Vanos Seals Repair Kit (6-cyl)" - Item # BS001, $60 but how do you order the "Vanos gasket"? Does that come with the kit too?

This what it says on the site:

Vanos piston seals repair kit (BS001) $60/each
vanos gasket (11-36-1-433-817) 6.73/each (how do you order this item?)
2 x vanos oil hose/pipe washer (32-41-1-093-596) $.25/each (and this one too?)

I got the Vanos gasket from Parkview as well as valve cover gasket.. I installed my Vanos pistons seals yesterday.. man.. what a difference.. I recommend getting it done.. Its almost like a different car, no more hesitation or rough idle.. even the knocking noise is gone.

Money well spent.

ruckuss: did they have those gaskets in stock, or did you have to order it through them?

The vanos seals do not come with any gaskets. I got mine from bimmerspecialist.com

No, they had them in stock. I bought the two washers, valve cover gasket and Vanos gasket, cost me about $55 from Parkview BMW.

You need the double vanos seals repair kit from Beisan.

you will also need Vanos gasket and valve cover gasket and 2 vanos oil hose/pipe washer. I got all these from BMW dealership.

With the double vanos seals repair kit from Beisan you only get 6 O-rings and 4 teflons seals.

hope this helps..

Just got back from lunch.. man... I love driving my car agagin.
