2000 540 "Check Brake Lights" & Headlight Adjustment

My "Check Brake Lights" has been on even though there is nothing visibly wrong with any of the lights in the brake light assembly. Fixes?

My left headlight has been drooping lower and lower over time. I've tried to adjust the aim using the knob on the headlamp assembly but I can only get the aim to go down more, but not up. Fixes?

Thanks!

Sounds like your headlamp adjusters are broken. It happens, they're made out of plastic. Go behind your headlight and see if the headlamp feels loose. (be gentle with it, because you don't want to break any more)

Check Brake lights sounds like your brake switch is on it's way out. Keep an eye out for it. I'm not quite sure where the switch is for E39, but it should be near the pedal.
