540 lon on power

I just picked up a 1995 540i. It has winter tires on it right now and with ASC off it wont even chirp the tires off the line. When flooring it it seems really slow and does pick up speed at about 3000 RPM.

Anyone know cause of this? Maybe needs a tune up?

Also when driving at speed then flooring it the transmisison doesnt shift down. Ive noticed as well that when starting off the line and just giving it a little throttle it shifts into the next gear at about 2000 RPM and I end up in 4th gear doing around 40 kmh.

WTF is with this

Thanks
Mike

I don't know specifically what the problem might be but i know that with my 530iA (and i think all BMW automatics) I will be in 5th gear going 50km/h if I'm accelerating gently. Since the transmission is not under much load it just shifts into top gear and uses the low end torque to accelerate. Mine however will downshift into the appropriate gear if i put the pedal down

Do a compression check. M60 engines are prone to the Nikalsil problem where the sleeves deteriorate.

tranny

yah sometimes it'll downshift but most of the time it wont

and the engine has no low end torque, after about 3000 it starts to pull pretty hard.

The first thing you need to do is have the codes read.
