Clearing M3 front brakes w/ 16" wheels

Is this doable with a spacer? Wheels are the stock 5-double-spoke alloys that came on the E36 328i Sport PKG cars. This is my winter setup, and I'm debating whether I should upgrade to E36 M3 front brakes. Will a spacer up front be able to clear the M3's front brake setup?

I've seen it done with no spacers, it involves machining the caliper...

I don't have the resources to do that sort of custom stuff. Need to know if spacers oughta give the extra bit of clearance I may need.

I forget but I think the M-contour reps in 16" just BARELY clear the brakes but will work. Jay (Mystical) ran 16" winter wheels/tires on his m3 this past winter.

^^^They might, but he's looking at using a set of rims he already has. I was in the same boat when I went to the Wilwoods. I ended up putting snow tires on my summer rims, and getting a new set for the next season. Anyway, I'd say there is almost no chance the stock 16" BMW rims will clear.

The best thing to do, to be sure, is bribe someone with ///M brakes (say with coffee or beer) into letting you try one of the rims on their car.

Anuk, if you feel like going for a drive come by my place and we'll try it on. I have 15mm spacers and obviously the brakes to go with it.

Bring beer.
