Parts car - E36 320i

So, I found out that a friend of the family recently bought up a junkyard, Woot! I drove down to his place on Friday afternoon to take a look at his comp setup and fix up his Crackberry. He mentoned to me on the phone that he only had one BMW and it was an E36...turns out it's a grey 320i auto, it actually looks decent and I'm pretty sure he'll let me grab some parts off it.

Anybody know anything about 320's? I'm not sure why but I expected an inline 4 under the hood but I think it might be a 6. What I do know for sure is that if the condenser and heater valve are solid, I'll be grabbing those for sure. I might even grab the nose panel and front bumper...anyone know what kind of diff is under there? It's auto so it might have some ridiculously high ratio.

Some pretty cool stuff in a junkyard. Some cars look like there's nothing wrong from far but as soon as you get closer, it's like Whoa! How the hell....I totally expected to see some blood in some of the cars but thankfully didn't. I saw an Expedition that only had the roof/windshield smashed in. Otherwise I bet the thing still runs! He also had an old school Land Rover. I figured it was just there because it was old but nope, it had been hit on the front driver's side. Anyway, just thought I'd share and hope someone knows stuff about stuff.

320 has a inline 6 cyld but isn't the same as the 2.5l - S52, it's a tiny 2.0l and has the power of a 4 pot but the fuel milage of a 6 pot, I personaly hate them but they do have more low end TQ then a M44 and almost no mod potential.
The diff is a type 168 3:91 ratio, 320 pretty much has nothing engine/drive train that would fit your car.

yeah 320 has an inline 6 m50, which is really simular to 2.5l m50, with a little less power!! you can take off the intake manifold from it, its pretty pricey!! also the brakes are the same as the 325 e36, which would be a good upgrade for 318 i quess!! 2l m50 are very strong engines, i used to have one before the swap to a 2.5l!!

other from the engine you can salvage non rusted fenders, doors, trunk lid, or any suspension parts such as control arms and sways(came on sport 320s)

Thanks Jeff and V bimmer. I'm not looking to strip it completely, just letting everyone know there is a decent parts car out there. I figure the owner should at least get to sell some stuff off it...

I thought it had a 6 but when I started typing this post, I started doubting myself...

the m50 manifold on the 320 is more restrictive than a m52 manifold. you need a m50 manifold off the 2.5L

I'm looking for all the under bumper plastics+brake ducts, and a passenger side fog light with bracket.

I have the air dam, cost me a pretty penny from the stealer.

I let him know I'm willing to come get everything but he's been hesitating to let me rape the car....He mentioned it might be cheaper to just sell me the car but I've got no room for that and what the heck would I do with a not quite empty shell afterwards.

I'll let you guys know what happens.

Check the rad as well.. Found a nice spot on the garage floor and reso is empty.. could be something else.. Another shot on the hoist...

I could turn it into some kind of off road montrocity... or at least have fun with it in some kind of demelition durby...

Okay, so if I go get everything off the car, I can get everything uber cheap OR he'll sell me the entire car for $800.

If I can break even and someone can come get the shell, everyone's welcome to grab whatever but I want to at least break even if it's going to sit in my garage/laneway...

I was mistaken with diff ratio.
3:91 is a type 188 auto ratio for the e36.
type 168 auto's had 4:44 ratio.

Tony, have you checked realoem if it's the same part?

The more I think about it, the more I might just take the whole car. I might try and recoup on the local classifieds for whatever you guys don't take...
