So i didnt get a new sticker before mine expired because i was really short on cash at the time. Now that its expired what do i do to get a new sticker? Everything iv read says you have to get it before it expires? Can i do it at one of those machines at the mall?

you can do it in the mail, or at one of those machines. If your car is newer than 1987 and you didn't get an e-test last year, you need to get an e-test first.

You dont have to get it before it expires, but if you drive the car around with a expired stickers, you might get a ticket. You can renew it after the expiration date, but it will be renewed for 1 year (or 2 years) from the expiry date.

its an 1987 so i dont need e-test. However, on the ministry's website it says it must be renewed BEFORE expiration. Also the thing i got in the mail said i can not mail it in after expiration date.

doesn't matter. just go get it. and it's a $120 fine if you get caught with an expired one.

That's the only reason it says to renew before it expires.

One time the cops pulled me over when I was driving my dad's van. He says you know why I pulled you over? I said no and he said you have expired sticker, I'm like wtf, so I get out of the car to check. I look a little closer and someone had RIPPED OFF the stickers back to the first one (2000) but left a little corner of the stack of ripped stickers. I pointed it out to the cops and he's like oh... LOL...so you can try doing the same haha

As a few have said, you can go to the Ministry in person and get a valid sticker anytime, even after the old one expires.

However, this is my understanding.

- If you keep your same plates, and renew sticker after the old one expires, you still back pay the previous months. That is, you pay for the full year (even if it's 6months expired). The new sticker always expires on your birthday. That's what happend to me for my stored cars.

- If you change your plates, you only have to pay for the remaining months. I've done this before, as the cost of renewing the plate was more than getting a new plate and remaining months of valid sticker.
