Strange Sound
I just noticed today driving with my windows down that there is a strange sound coming from down below. I searched but didn't find anything.
Must have something to do with the transmission:
-Sounds like crickets
-Not very loud
-No sound with clutch depressed
-All gears
-Can't hear it at idle in neutral
-Doesn't get louder in different gears, just the same noise while accellerating throughout all gears.
Any ideas? Doesn't sound "alarming" or anything, but want to check it out.

Likely a loose heat shield. There are several on the car.

You missed the "-No sound with clutch depressed" part...
Most likely clutch/transmission...

i test drove it, this just started happening a week later. It's not very noticeable.
Sometimes it doesn't even make the sound. I'm going to let it go unless it becomes common.

Very bad approach to things, if there is any sign of a problem it wont fix itself...Get it checked at early stage, it will gost you way less and avoid more damage...

Very well put. I don't understand people that put shit like that off? If you hear a weird noise, have your car checked out and fix it before the problem gets worse and consequently more costly.

So I got underneath, there were loose heatshields and the driveshaft was rubbing on some insulation. Fixed all that up and everything looks good but the sound is there.
It goes away in gear even with the slightest bit of pressure on the clutch. There is a tad bit of "play" in the pedal but before it becomes harder to press and in that area, the sound goes away. It doesn't take much.
Anymore ideas before I take it to a shop?

So any recommendation for where I should take it to get looked at? Or is a local shop good enough?

Local shops wont do it IMO...Seen too may people getting burned...Take it to a reputable BMW shop...Bimmersport is the place on top of that list...
