I couldn't agree more. It's incredible to see how ahead of their time some of the Jap cars were. Although i love the way the older BMW's look, the japs took it in styling hands down!

Awesome pics! I would've been at that show in 1989 but not as much of a BMW fan then as I am now.

What are they going to be saying about the GTR debuting in the 2008 TIAC in 2028 I wonder?

That NSX still looks great to me. Love the M3 as well.

I'm gonna say that the NSX, 300ZX, E34 and the Corrado were amazing looking cars for 1989

+1.

I still wouldn't mind getting a Corrado.. Always liked those cars but along with it came many problems..

300zx. I had one back in high school truly a nice car and fun car to drive...

This is a step back in time.. AH the good ol days!!!

Actually, after I slept on it I realized why it looks like it.

E24 was in production since 1976(!), and 89 was actually it's last year.
E30 was in production since 83 and also was about to end it's production in 2 years.
Now NSX is a concept, and it will enter production in a year or two.
300zx came out in 1989 so it was all new car.

I'm surprised E31 was not there, that car would even things out for BMW, since all those cars except e32 and e34 were about to end it's production.

True, but the Germans were always subtle with their styling cues on their cars. Take a look at the E36. Came out in 92 and stayed until 99, but even still, the 300zx, RX-7 (FD), or the Supra looked ahead of the E36 in terms of styling (performance is different alltogether). The jap really held it down, but then it's like everything switched around. The japs got more boxy, while the german's went bubbly and NOW.... EVERYTHING just looks like the same shit!

You can't really compare E36 to 300zx, RX7 and Supra in terms of styling.
E36 is a regular family car, while those cars were sports cars from day one.
In terms of design you can compare them to E31, but then again, e31 was 2-3 times the price, and again not really in the same class.
