I don't want it to look too fake. Thats why I left it at this, and I assume black subject matter isn't the best thing to try to take HDR pictures of.

It looks cartoonish, but that's the appeal.... I like it, especially the background

HDR- explained to the best of my limited ability
High Dynamic Range...what it is- your eye and most photographs see only one 'light setting' that is it can capture only one 'image' at a time. When you do HDR photography you take the exact same picture (Nothing moves) at several EV (Exposure Values) (you have seen the -2....0.....+2 setting on your camera) and some nice cameras have AEB which is Auto Exposure Bracketing so by the image not being set on one EV you are able to capture the entire dynamic range of light in the photograph when you can merge the pictures together through software, you can get 'dramatic' effects. The more dynamic range in the picture the greater the impact...Clouds and slightly overcast days make SUPERB HDR photographs because the light varies so very much from the top to the bottom of the clouds it creates an awesome 'feel' in the photo.
When properly done it creates a surreal effect...when tastelesly done it creates a 'fake' feel.
Here is a good one of an accord (off flickr) if you can have a good one of an Accord...LOL But you get the idea...

Hdr?
If those are HDR your ev values are way to close on the merged photos...seperate the evs more...they appear to have the exact same EV setting thus you merged the same photo with no tone differential to MAP.
