Curb Weight 135i vs e39 540i
3,373 lbs. on the 135i vs 3775 lbs. for the 540i....
Couldn't BMW do a bit better than 402lbs?

The 1 series is effectively a shortened 3 series. There wasn't much in weight savings at all.

Well weight would really be the only reason I'd grab one....

that's the trend these days...More technology, stiffer chassis, more safety equipment, quieter interior = heavy ass cars.
Just look at the e30's...dimensions wise, it's probably similar to the 135i (guessing), but they were only 2700 lbs.

Heh, got both and I just have to say... the 135 is a pocket rocket. The 540 is no slouch, but just can't match. The only thing the 540 has going for it is the 5 seater, lateral stability (I feel anyway), awesome low end growling.

Agreed, i just test drove a 135i today, and man was i impressed... 300hp in those little bastards make for a scary fun time. The cabin room, trunk space, etc reminded me completely of my E36 coupe dimension wise so just think about how much a E36 weighed. The 1s are pretty much the same!
