I agree with you. That will cheapen the BMW name. Its pretty sad that BMW is going to this level.

See thats what I originally thought when I first saw these cars. But remember with the current aftermarket craze for compact hot rods going on, bmw knows what they are doing. Off the lot, they are a laughing stock, but I think that you will be able to inexpensively make a monster out of the 1 series. I mean if there was a choice between a compact civic and a compact BMW, what would you pick??

True, but anybody can make a compact.. BMW should make a compact that meets BMW standards of quality and driveability... 90HP is NOT BMW standard. Don't get me wrong, its a good looking car, and Im sure it will sell like faster than a truckload of stolen playstation 2's.. but 90HP and a $16,000 price tag?!? Look at the benz C-Class coupe.. base price is $35K CAN. $16K USD is about $24.5K CAN.... How can BMW compete with the C-Class? And anybody that knocks the C-Class should really drive in one first. But then again.. I guess the 1-Series wouldn't really be in competition with the benz with such a huge price difference

They should bring back the ti...hopefully the 1-series will be RWD, not just a MINI with a BMW grille and fender treatment.

I don't think it would cheapen the BMW name as long as it's RWD, and has the requisite BMW handling and ride- and it doesn't look cheap. Also, the 1.6 is way to small for NA market...for Europe, it'd probably be okay...the M42/M44 1.8/1.9 should be a KILLER in that car.

The next Initial-D based on a small German hatchback???????

1st it is not 90hp, 116i will have same engine as MINI.
Next model is 118i and 120i and the most powerful is M1.
1 series is not a competition to c class coupe.
318ti and 325ti are the competitions.

1 series is a competition to the A-class.
Damn Benz has a class for about 5 years, did it cheapen Benz name? NO. Chill guys, BMW needs something cheaper. Who cares about the name? It looks like most of you drive a BIMMER, just because it is a BMW and nothing else.

I still think they should have made the 1 series to compete with the C-class coupe benz. Not to compete with rice rocket grocery getters.

I'm sorry but that cheapens the BMW name.

just as a note, there are rumours of the 1-series being fwd due to space and cost reasons.

It'll be like the bmw civic.

This car will not compete with C class.

It is a fact that 1 series will be FWD.
1 series will compete with Benz A class and Audi A3

Audi A3

Benz A -Class
