Police Cracking Down On Bad Drivers This Week

http://www.citynews.ca/news/news_23171.aspx

Quote:
They're busy stretches of road and intersections notorious for aggressive driving, speeding and accidents and police will be keeping a close eye on those areas this week taking a zero tolerance approach to bad drivers.

Three Toronto Police traffic units along with officers from York Regional Police will be patrolling various roads in Toronto north into York Region. Here's a look at this week's hot spots:

Wednesday: Don Mills from Eglinton Avenue East and north into York Region

Thursday: Yonge Street from Lawrence Avenue into York Region

Friday: Weston Road from Lawrence Avenue West into York Region.

The zero-tolerance policy also applies to pedestrians who don't use crosswalks and cyclists who don't follow the rules of the road.

Sgt. Tim Burrows of Toronto Police Traffic Services explained why Don Mills is being targeted Wednesday.

"It's a commuter route. When the expressways pile up with rush hour traffic, what happens is people get off the major thoroughfares, jump on to the side streets and still try to drive," he said.

"Speeding offences range from whatever speed they're doing. The speeds that they do will reflect on the fines they will face."

Police are hoping to reduce the number of traffic fatalities this year. In 2007, 52 people died in accidents on Toronto streets, including 23 pedestrians.

I am working at Yonge/lawrence today, so I took Yonge down from Bloomington, this is NO JOKE PEOPLE!
They are out in FULL FORCE!
Saw them ticketing for, driving int he carpool lane(almost got caught for that), speeding, driving in the turning lane to get ahead(almost got caught for that too), etc etc..
Be careful out there.

It was crazy yesterday morning when I was on Don Mills. Between Sheppard and York Mills, I saw close to 10 cars got pulled over.

i heard about the blitz maybe 5 times before i went to work, and clost to 6-7 while on my way to work,

and on top of that i had friends calling me and telling be to be careful if im in that area

im surprised that since they mention it so often some people still aren't careful when they pass through the area
