it's not a dumb question... you are American and the G1 only applies here in Canada.

Basically it's part of our "graduated" driver licensing program. When you turn 16 (I think?) you are able to get a G1 (general) or M1 (motorcycle) temporary learner's permit. This is done by (pre-reading) a driving handbook, memorizing the signs and rules of the road, and writing a multiple choice test of like 50 questions (it's been a while for me). IF you pass, you can drive a car with a (fully) licensed driver in the passenger seat ONLY during the day and OFF major highways, with 0% B.A.L. (Blood Alcohol Level). This is good for (I think) 6 months, then you do your G2 or M2 exam which requires you to pass a DMV driving test in their test facility. If you pass, you can drive anytime, anywhere, just STILL 0% B.A.L..... then after you can finally do your G or M test. (Correct me if I'm wrong anyone.... I never did this graduated shit).

randy has the right idea but to be more specific....

u obtain ur g1 after passing a written test..when u get ur g1 ur aloud driving wiht somebody who has there G license and four year experience, not aloud driving 1 am - 6 am, and can't have no alcohol in ur system

to obtan ur g2 .. u must wait 8 months (if u take driving school) or a full year to go do the test..the test is a driving test opposed to a writen g1 test.with g2 u can drive by urself anytime, but u can not have alcohol in ur system

a year after ur g2 u can go for ur G test...G test is another driver test but on the road and on the highway. u can can have 0.08 mg of liqour in ur body (that's approx. one beer every hour) if u pass

hope this helps

A "G" permit also allows you to tow things as well. Weird.

Except when you get your permanent liscense we still have to take another 45 minute road test a year after our G2, called the G as explained. The G test is the biggest waist of time, just another way for the government to scam another 75$.

I would not say 75 bucks because they fail people there and Gov...make good $$ there , for that G test. 75 bucks plus a car from driving school and if you fail ....

Lets say $200 ....

That G test is not worth it because You do THE same things like G2 and all you have to do is drive 100km on HWY...and maybe look a bit on mirors so he does not fail you ,that's what they said... Most people fail that test in the town not on HWY.

These Chinese people still can not see is it in Drive or Parking like to put it in gear it's tough for them so usually they bend their head towards tranny hahah...

I had a golf before, and I hated it. It was the K2 edition, came with all the bells and whistles, but it was one of the VW's made in Mexico, which made it really crappy. Got the BMW after, a much improved car!
Yeah they wiill run you quite a bit depending how new it is.
