Looking To Buy D-slr

Well I'm officially in the market for a D-SLR and I've had my eye on the Nikon D40. I need a good entry level D-SLR so I could familiarize myself to these types of cameras. It's main use will be for real estate but I do like photography as a hooby as well. Does anyone know where I can get this camera for a good price (Black's sells it for $399- Just the body though).

Anyone have any discounts at any camera stores or can point me in the right direction with this?

Eddie

****. Do you think they would let me buy it for $450 still lol. Cheapest price I found so far is $488 and everyone is willing to match it. It would come to a total of $551 with tax

Not sure about Bestbuy.
You can try Simons Camera in Montreal since they don't charge PST (may be shipping charge though).

Does anyone have the flyer from bestbuy showing that the d40 was selling for $450. Some retards who work at bestbuy, including the manager, couldn't help me with anything. The guy didn't even know how to answer my questions about the camera (I know pretty much everything I need to about it but I wanted to see if he did). By him not knowing, it makes it seem like he'll just say anything to make a sale. Where do they find these people?

I'm looking at getting a D40 myself. BestBuy has the kit for $499 right now I think, so does Black's. I'm actually thinking of ordering from an ebay seller. A few D40 kits on there are going for around $460 and include body, lense, bag, memory card, couple tripods and a couple other things. I'm sure the accessories are not of the highest quality, but still. Pretty much any dslr can be had with a similar accessory kit from these ebay sellers.

Anyone ever ordered anything like this from ebay before?

I had Futureshop match the price of a D40 w/ lens from another place. I ended up picking it up for $550 taxes included. As far as ebay sellers go, I just wouldn't buy electronics from someone I can't deal with in person or someone who could very well disappear tomorrow. Just a preference thing I suppose.

I'm gonna look into tripods and camera bags tomorrow which I will most likely find cheap on craigslist or kijiji.

Awesome man! Congrats!! Let us know how you like it as you get going. I'm still trying to resist the urge to buy ... not sure how much longer I'll be able to hold out.

As far as ebay goes, yeah, I agree, I don't really like buying anything from there. However, this one seller I was refering to seems pretty legit. They have 1-800 numbers, amazing feedback, and respond to questions very promptly. True, all of this stuff can be done by non-reputable individuals ... but, it's a lot of effort to go through.

Trust me, I know about the urge to buy a camera. I almost bought the Nikon D40 last year right before my trip to LA. They couldn't get the camera out here in time so I cancelled the order (I was prepared to pay $750 at the time!).

Honestly, the prices are great on these considering they are amazing entry level D-SLR's. Futureshop matched a cheaper price I found on the kit too. I'll let you know how I like the camera and even post up some shots once I familiarize myself more with the camera.

I guess you got a bump from a spammer!

What did you end up picking up? I just picked up a D60. After a bunch of research, found this was the best choice...

I ended up getting a D40 with the 18-55mm kit lens. I love the camera and how easy it is to use. I'll probably upgrade in a year or so when I really get the hang of things. How do you like the D60?

I ended up with the D60 body and picked up an 18-135 lens. I LOVE what this lens does for portraits. I got it used from craigslist from a guy who had it for a year (comes with 5 year warranty and he gave me a copy of the receipt from Henry's).

The D60 is AWESOME - I had the choice between this and the D80 and I was inches from going with the D80. I ended up with the D60 as I thought to myself that if I REALLY got into this, I could sell it off and go into a D200 or even D300. The D700 was just released, but it's crazy expensive... $3300 no lens!!

Ended up getting a great deal on the whole bundle. All said and done, it cost me about $625 for the D60, carry case, 2 GB CD high speed card and the lens.

I'm still learning on this thing, but have been able to capture some nice shots. See my thread "So I joined the DSLR owners today...".

Seriously thinking about taking Sheridan's fall courses in photography and really getting into it...
