Problem; i think its my on-board-computer

Hello everyone,

this morning, and to my distress, i turned on my car as normal and proceeded to drive to school. however i noticed that my computer toggle (on the left arm) wasn't working and i could no longer scroll through the various on screen options; ie the time, avg kph, avg gas usage, etc.

With that being said my battery light came on along side my check oil light (in red!). Immediately i pulled over to check my oil but to the best of my knowledge i had a sufficient amount, it was of acceptable colour, and it had been only about 5000km since my last full change.

Furthermore my speedometer is inoperable! i am no longer able to see how fast i am going; thankfully i know my car well enough to estimate my speed.

Is this a computer problem? or something else/worse? any direction on where and who to talk too would be very appreciated. I am now in the Ottawa area and only know of two dealerships that i can take it too so if at all possible i would like to fix this myself; or take it to a reliable bmw specialist in Ottawa.

Thanks again for any and all input on this matter.

Try that.
Some people have had luck just disconnecting the battery
Good luck

Yeah, check all fuses, and check that your battery is indeed providing correct voltage. Weird things begin to happen with low batteries.

If you have any accesories, DICE, or CD Changer etc intstalled try disconnecting those and restart.

Mine did the same thing a few months after a DICE install and every light came on one by one and thought it was my computer...until some BMW TECH online had me check that.

Something about interference with the BUS signal.....

I can't tell you the relief I had when it worked......

Have had nothing installed or change, battery is only a year old
Pulled some fuses, it just made the airbag light come
I should have a scan tool next weekend, I will try clearing the codes and see what happens then

The scan tool for the airbag does not work
It is the seatbelt light and not the airbag light
The cruise control light is also on now, the cruise control does work
I have disconnected the battery for at least 20 min
Does anyone have any ideas
