So as I type this I'm waiting my four hour wait for a cab, or possibly a friend to dig his way out to come to my aid.
I was coming back from a party lastnight during the worst snow storm I have ever seen in my life (believe me I didn't think it would be THIS bad or I wouldn't have gone). I'm coming up Bank St. towards heron/baseline and my lights had been getting dimmer and dimmer. Finally my car's power fizzled right out, so I put my 4 ways on and slid off to the side of the road. I let the car sit for about 10 minutes and it actually started again, but it only ran for about 30 seconds before doing the same thing. When I rev the car the lights don't go brighter or anything, so I suspect alternator or voltage regulator?
Either way, my car is still on the side of Bank St., or towed somewhere (hopefully without damage!). I tried to call a tow truck, they told me they couldn't tow till tomorrow or monday and not to worry because even if the city had it towed they'd have to wait that long lol... I phoned the Police and they told me they'd make a note of it and have it towed to a side street for me if it needed to be moved, or if not they'd call me.
By the grace of god we were able to flag down a passing taxi and convince him with a generous tip to forget about his current fare and take us home as we were frozen to death and it was 2am by this point (there was 4 of us in the car). I closed the door with my business card caught in the window in hope the tow truck driver would be nice enough to call me.
So anyways, I wake up thismorning and find that there are no cabs available and no busses running, so short of a 2 hour walk there's no way to get back to my car. My plan is to buy a booster pack at Canadian Tire and use it to run the car long enough to get home (about a 10 minute drive), or at least get it across the road into the Canadian Tire parkinglot.
Now that I have a plan to get the car off of the road (assuming it's still there and not swept away by a loader or something) I need a plan to fix it.
My buddy and I will put a DMM on the Alternator/Battery when we get the car back, but if it is the Alternator I'm going to need to find one. My question is: Does anybody know of a place that can rebuilt my alternator if I pull it off and take it there?? OR does anybody have a used/new one I can purchase. I'm really screwed here, and as always I'm turning to Max Bimmer for help
