changing the headliner colour?

My headliner right now is gray and i want to change it to black, but the process seems difficult. So i was wondering if there is a way i could just colour or paint the cloth black?

my friend and i did it on my headliner, im in an e30, but it shouldnt be a whole lot different. we got some vinyl dye (spray bomb) from the local crappy tire, masked off everything in the car, and just went for it. turned out amazing. one of the best interior mods i've done so far.

you may have to do it from 2 directions, it doesnt always get around the little nubblys on the fabric.

Remove the headliner, which is pretty simple and re-fabric everything.
Just go buy fabric and glue.

Seen it done a couple of times and it usually looks good if the person takes their time and make sure everything is properly glued so there is no sagging.

no offense, but dont do that. glueing on new fabric is a HUGE amount of work.

canadian tire sells vinyl and fabric spray. its what i used. you need about 3 bottles. Take everything out of the car to do it (leave sunroof in, spray it in place).

you'll need 5 black lights, 3 black oh shit handles, and 2 black lights to complete the conversion. (if your car is a sedan) 5 black lights + 2 visors must be off m3 (coupe or sedan), the 3 oh shit handles are specific to the number of doors your car has (if you have 4dr e36, you have to buy them new from dealer or find them used from m3/4)

g'luck.

hmm i may have to check this product out. The process of removing and gluing in a new fabric is quite difficult, you have to sand the fiberglass or else it will be lumpy, you have to cut holes, etc. the headliner itself is very delicate. Id rather jut paint it and to my avail it seems possible.

Im also going to try to see if it is possible to just dye the sun visors, and handles, as well as the interior lights. When i get to doing this ill take pics and if all goes well, hopefully i will post up a DIY.
