Just found a new engine for my 1990 325i
Hey I found a guy out in windsor selling a BMW e30 M20 2.7L ETA 6 cyl. engine with low miles........He says it has 120 on it for 300 bucks.....
Its coming out of a 86 and I have a 1990 325i. What changes do I have to make to make?

why would you want to downgrade to a 2.7L eta motor?
You would need to change all the electronics to get it to work.

Yea ETA motor is a downgrade, unless you swap your old head onto that bottom end and run MS. It might make the same power..
Or boost it

everyone who replied assumed the OP was looking for HP performance. What if the guy is looking to have a reliable, economical beater? eta motor would fit the bill even better than the i one.

its more work to make a E motor fit into an I, rather than to just throw in another I motor which is plug and play. the I is fairly economical too.. it just depends on the drivers foot

I just wanted to a second opinion. Its my first e30 and I'll never give it up and I won't drive in anything else but a bimmer. I'm just shopping around now so I'll be ready for summer.
My engine died with 350......I'm just looking to get back on the road so I'm open to any suggestions!

What is wrong with the m20 currently in the car?
Snapped Belt?, Bad Valves?, knocking bottom end?, Headgasket????
It most likely can be fixed depending on what it is.

Two of my pistons are jammed and my water pump just went. I'm really considering going with the m50 swap.

I think I might just do it. But my search continues on trying to find a m50 engine and somewhere do get it done.
I'm up for all suggestions

I suggest that you drive to ottawa and buy my 325is motor with about 25,000km's on the rebuild $450 Picked up. It's out of a 87 325is.
