Z24 SPANKS 330 on highway???

I just happened to see this story on torontostreetracing.com. I found it hard to believe that a naturally aspirated Z24 could pull this off, but I guess this guy managed to.
Don't know if it's BS ... seems like it to me.

Anyways' here's the link to the story.

This is what I think.

a) It was a 320i, yes... "320!!!!" that raced the guy. The passenger in the Z24 must've been blind.

b) It really was a 330i, but he's just playing around w/the Z24 and letting off the gas from time to time. He/she may have pushed it initially but backed off

It's stupid, just a freeway race between two strangers. Can't determine if both are trying or not. But let the Z24 think that 330 is faster, cuz one day he'll be sorry

I don't think there's too much of a big difference on manual and auto for the 330 once you are running at such high speeds.

i dunno what to believe
i know that my car being a 2.5 as well (i think the z24 has a 2.5 as well right?) i was able to hang with a 330 on the highway up until my auto tranny hit final gear then he walked away from me.
I'm still not sure i believe the z24 could do the same though. I've been in my friend's z24 and once we hit about 170km/h the whole car starts to shake and feels like it'll fall apart if it went any faster.
and it's really hard to control at those speeds as well.
but maybe this driver was crazy =)

Maybe it started to shake because of the tires

Either they're worn out or pretty low
Or speed rating is pretty low

I can take a 318 and I don't have a Z24. But then I've beaten a couple Z24s because they can't shift worth sheet.

The newer Z24s are 2.4L 150hp/150ft-lbs, the older ones are 3.1L V6s 165hp/185ft-lbs. I think they'd be able to keep up (atleast keep up) with a 318/320/323 without much problem, a 330 on the other hand is REALLY pushing it.

Yes there are compact domestics that can take a smaller 3series BMW, but on an equal playing field, the 330 should be able to kick his ass.

I know quite a few GMs and Fords that'd easily beat any ZM3, but they're not quite stock anymore.

I don't care who was driving that 330, even if he was shit, there is no way in hell a Z24 POS would smoke a 330. My car with way less hp can peg a z24 no questions, and after that I would smoke him even more on the corners. What a clown. It is one thing to tell a story about beating a car in a race, but when you are blatenly altering or bullshitting the story, that is very sad.

Oh yeah, to the spiked lemon guy who posted an old caviler with the 3.1 could take a 323, all I have to say is, bring any clown on especially one in an old cavalier and I'll teach him a lesson.

How old are you? 16? Did you just get your shiny new Civic?

Really, I thought you BMW guys were better than that.

SpikedLemon, there is no way z24 was hanging with 330ci
I was palying with 330ci couple of weeks ago, and it is pretty fast, you need more than z24 to keep up with it.

about cavy vs 318, 320, 323 I dunno, but even 318 got more hp than your cavy. BUt I dunno the weight on those cars.
