2008 335xi - Keep it OR let it go

I have a 2008 BMW 335xi with 190K kms on it.

I just had an accident.
I was driving at around 50km speed and cutoff by another car. I think I was on his blind spot.
He was on left lane and I was on right lane.
So in order not to hit this car I pulled right side a little bit and drove on the curve(ramp).
The curve than became a sidewalk. It is kind of a ramp before a sidewalk starts.
Both front right and rear right wheels were driving on side walk briefly.
Than I pulled left and got off the side walk and fall down very hard onto road.
Immediately engine started making loud noise and it got louder and louder. It sounds like driving a farm tractor.
I stopped and had towed the car to auto repair shop.
Mechanic stated that the engined toasted and need a new engine (rebuilding was not an option).
So to get a second opinion I took the car to a different shop.
I didn't tell what other mechanic's diagnose was. This shop also said engine need to be replaced.

There is no damage to body (bumpers are fine, underneath of the car also looks good). The front strut and alignment are off but no big deal.
So in short, I need to replace the engine. Used ones are around $3000 plus labor ($2000 + tax). Total would be $5000 - $6000 estimate.

I am going to report it to Auto Insurance company but my main concern is it might be declared as total loss.
Other than engine, my car is in great condition. It is very clean and recently had water-pump, thermostat, coolant-tank, coolant & radiator hoses replaced.
Radiator, Windshield, break-pads and sensors are also replaced within 6 months.

Same year & model and mileage goes around $11K + tax. Assuming everything works and not a lemon. Also, there is none available in my are. GTA would be the closest.

I don't really want to let the car go and don't mind getting a used engine. My only concern is the decision of the Insurance company.
They might value it at lower $ and mark it as total loss.

What are my options?
Any thoughts?

Something must've happened to the underside of the engine for it to be declared 'toast'. Was there any oil leakage? Cracked oil pan would be a possibility, but unless you drove a while I struggle to see that ruining the engine. Did you have any check engine light come on?

Who are these shops to which you brought the car? BMW specialists? Seems really odd to just write off an engine without explanation.

No, oil leak and much damage. Minor scratches under the front bumper and covers. Yes, check engine light comes up.
Both of the shops are indy. One of them a BMW specialist and the mech drives same car.

Did the other guy stop? Sounds like you'll be found at fault for this incident and your insurance will go up.
Sadly you'd have been better off letting that idiot hit you, then he'd be 100% at fault.

If your insurance is going to pay for it and the repair is only half the value of the car, I don't see why they'd they'd scrap it. Though they may not cover you since you didn't didn't go to the accident reporting center.

Also, a good shop would've told what the problem with the engine is, not just that you need a new one.

What area are you in?

No, the other guy didnt stop. It was a family van and my response was a quick reflex action. Problem seems to be with some bearings inside the engine being gone bad which I am not sure. I asked about rebuilding it or fixing it, both shops seem to void that. Apparently, getting a new (used) engine is the best option as far as dollar figures goes.
I am in Tri-city area, ON. I might look for an engine specialist that is good at fixing/re-building engines.
