Wink Need to view computer settings

Hello, I'm new and in distress. Just acquired a 2002 530i and found out none of the three remote control keys are working. Took it to a fellow who specializes in remote control keys and conducted several test. He concluded, as I suspected, there something in the car which is not allowing them to function. Don't want to spend the outrageous charges at the dealer. Doors opening/closing button (besides the warning lights triangle by the central console) does not work either. Ah, and the courtesy lights (dome, door lights) do not come ON when opening a door. The alarm appears to be set to visual only, rather than audible, which is good since sometimes it comes on apparently by itself. How can I view and possibly print all the computer settings for the car, so that I can see what is ON and what is OFF. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance to anyone who may reply.

Find an independent BMW garage in Oakville who’s familiar with the cars alarm/remote system.

The previous owner didn’t mention this, and you didn’t notice?

Need to view computer settings.

Thanks 4th Gear for the reply. I don't know how to find an independent BMW garage. I am concerned, most will say they are capable. I already went through one who said he was capable to fix any car, but it appears he was learning. I would be happy if I could just find out what the default settings are, what is available before going to a mechanic who has the bi-directional equipment to effect changes. Any tips how to select a garage and where to find the default settings would be much appreciated.

Take a look at the Sponsors list. There are several reliable BMW independents in the GTA.

I got a spare key fob for my 2011 528i programmed in one of auto shops in North York/Toronto ( EAST AUTO: address 50 Eugene St, North York, ON M6B 3Z4) The guy has all programming equipment and might be able to help if you haven't figured it out yet
