Ban Politics Discussion...Vote.

I'm on a few other forums and on one of them, there's a rule that no politics can be discussed as they get pretty heated and dumb things get said, people get laughed at and hatred is spread around...or something like that.

whats your opinion on banning politics on the forums.

just a thought. vote is anonymous.

Definitely. Maybe have a Politics, religion and conspiracies forum for those who just can't live without it but not have threads from there show up in the New Posts search.

I agreee with BigD. It's nice to discuss, but as you can tell. Some things are better left alone and saved for a proper forum instead of a car forum.

As much as I hate reading people ramble about politics, it's not right to ban discussions. If you don't like the topic then just move on and don't open the thread.

Its an off-topic section. Don't read it.

Because you dont like hearing the opposite argument, or debating it?

Why ban it? A lot of the time those threads are the most entertaining thing this forum has to offer. I bet most/all of the people who voted to ban couldn't honestly say they never go in those threads. Who gives a shit?

Its a waste of space...No need for it on a car forum. We have to focus on what this forum is about, and as much as we are free to say what we want, there is a time and place for it; a car forum is not a debate stage...

its off topic section...this place is slow anyways.

I see no reason to ban it/add more rules. If it rolls into other sections. of course it doesnt belong there. but in this section. i see zero problem with it. dont want to participate? don click those threads.

All car forums(or forums in general) progress to off topic banter as there is only so much you can yap about your car especially if youve had it 5+ yrs

Off topic - Anything goes! (must be a member to view)

I had suggested to the mods that they put in a politics/religion subforum the last time i was threatened with bannishment.....

the geo-political threads seem to be the most replied to. guess thats what 25+ year old members of this forum (& others) want to talk about!?

things to consider: stunting racing law. when it came about how many on here heard about it on here (many im sure)? now imagine if those threads were deleted and your 1st encounter with the new law were a $20K ticket, licence gone, car impounded - and you get the insurance rates of a DUI for the next 5-yrs. media estimates in total its about $60K.

cencorship is not a joke & is evil.

Some times the dumbest politic threads can be educational?

Reason being the more educated people ussually chime in, and I for one get to read some great information. I do not follow it closely, and this was my first year voting.

i agree. use to have lols and lots of interesting articles about inventions and what not. then again, seems like a lot of people have been less frequent on the board.

maybe a subforum for political stuff is a better bet.

but it's just a thought and the results so far are interesting. very close.

I don't see why you can't ignore a topic if it doesn't interest you. Off topic by definition is topics of discussion unrelated to cars.

like this thread, the Gov wants people online to just STFU
and if you don't and 'some1' deems your opinions 'hatefull' well you can just do 2years in jail!

Quote:

Tory crime bill an attack on our liberty

It is said that the price of freedom is eternal vigilance and that’s just as true now, after the Conservative win, as it was before.

I’m sure that some Tory supporters have been dancing in the streets singing Let Freedom Reign, but putting your faith in any one political party is having blind faith.

The people with the power are the ones we often need to be most afraid of, nameless, faceless bureaucrats with immense power to set regulations that can be impossible to overturn. And since we don’t vote for them, they have no reason to fear us.

Politicians don’t really run the show, they just set some direction and hope the bureaucrats get it right.

We hope our elected officials act as an oversight on our behalf, but we can’t count on it.

If you don’t want intrusive laws creeping up, if you don’t want your liberty eroded, then it’s up to you to stand on guard.

The Conservatives plan on introducing an omnibus crime bill when the House resumes that wraps all of their previous legislation into one.

The bill is promoted as allowing police to track and prosecute the perverts passing around child pornography and allows them to update their monitoring techniques to deal with the ever-changing computerized world we live in.

Sounds fine. What could be wrong with that?

In fact, there’s nothing wrong with that part, but there is plenty to worry about in what they propose to do regarding hate crimes.

The bill plans to make it a crime to link to any website that promotes hatred.

Here’s what the Library of Parliament says about the bill on its website: “Clause 5 of the bill provides that the offences of public incitement of hatred and wilful promotion of hatred may be committed by any means of communication and include making hate material available, by creating a hyperlink that directs web surfers to a website where hate material is posted, for example.”

For simply posting a link to a website that has material someone else deems hateful, you could go to jail for two years and be branded a criminal.

The Internet police. Only in Canada.

This isn’t about protecting people from genocide or even threats of death, the way the law is written now is much broader.

“Everyone who, by communicating statements, other than in private conversation, wilfully promotes hatred against an identifiable group is guilty.”

There’s also the sticky question of who decides what is hateful?

Will websites promoting Israeli Apartheid Week, now a staple on university campuses across Canada, land someone in jail? What about web postings on the Armenian genocide which the Armenians blame the Turks for but which the Turks dispute?

This is a ridiculous proposal that has no place in a country that claims to cherish freedom of expression.

We used to say: “I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.” Now it seems like Canadian society believes “I disapprove of what you say and I’ll prosecute you.”

The Harper Conservatives won a majority Monday, they can pass this bill without relying on any other party for support. But they still need your support and your donations and the Canadian public should tell them they will get neither if they put forward bills like this that attack liberty.

http://www.ottawasun.com/2011/05/05/...on-our-liberty
if this were law tomorrow half the board would call for my arrest
& i have the screen shots to prove it, saying i 'hate the police & government'
which is twisted because clearly the complainers are coming from a place of hate, hatered of freedom, freedom of expression & people having rights.

stalins russia, east germany here we come?
