Looking for a good set of recording headphones

I'm looking for a decent set of headphones, which will be used for recording in a home studio, guitar, drums, bass, and vocals.

They will never be used out and about in an ipod.

Any recommendations?

what's your budget? you obviously want headphones not earbuds right?
I normally wouldn't recommand Sony products, but they do have some decent headphones.

Thanks, those monitors series ones look good. Anyone have any experience with Sony? Anything better bang for the buck than these?

I have friends that are DJ's and most of them use this Sony headphones, http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/...uctId=11038999

they are definitely loud & the vocals are good, but it lacks bass, but the ones you picked would probably solve the bass problem.

I actually just tried out the Monitor ones the other day. Very impressed with them, but like quack was saying, the bass (or lack of) is nothing to write home about.

Sony's are a really good brand when it comes to headphones for whatever need you have, and they're pretty reasonably priced too!

I have those, and I think think they have enough bass. The biggest problem with them is that they have weak construction due to all those joints. Sooner or later they will crack. Also you can't wear them for too long, starts to hurt your ears.

I have a pair of Sony headphones that have been around for 5+ years now... still sound great, and are very comfortable.

As for the bass issue, some headphones sound like they lack bass, but it's not always the case. Bass can be addictive, and if you are the type to drive around with a 20" sub in your car, you're probably a junkie for the stuff. Good sound quality gets drowned out by too much bass... you only need a bit, especially with headphones, and especially if using it to record. You want to hear the tone, not the bass.

I used a set of Sennheiser HD 650 and they were amazing, but theyre worth an arm/leg and half a testicle.

Edit - if your looking for lots of base, check out the AKG K 601 or the more affordable AKG K271
