and by the way , its very easy to take the door panel off ... there is one bolt in a door handle that opens the door and the rest are all clips ,,, so you just have to start undoing the clips one by one ... the biggest clip is behind the door handle..... just be very carefull cuz its very easy to break a clip.... after you got all the clips just push the door panel up and take it off....

The correct way to remove it is to remove the door panel . Then remove the plastic trim between the 1/4 glass behind the trim is 2 or 3 screws . remove the screws and then you can take off the front metal trim covering the 1/4 glass.Bring the window up till you see the tourque screws once you have removed them then bring the window up and push it outwards . be very careful not to loose the two red inserts for the glass . I am a BMW tech for 25 years . Good luck

I have the same problem with my left rear. I was told its the window regulator. I'll get it fixed sometime soon but prefer to go to a shop as opposed to playing around with it.

BMW Tech, off hand, how much are window regulators?

I wouldn't bother, it will happen again, something must have broke like a guide, I already replaced mine couple of years ago, the stupid thing about it is that if you go to the dealer they will sell you the window regulator that comes with the motor, I paid about $300 at the Dealer, if you can find a aftermarket one that doesn't have the motor you'll be saving over $100.
