Help! My Heater is Mad

I am having a problem with my heater. First, two days ago the fan switch, position 1,2,3 stopped working (4 still works). Then yesterday the heat just started to get weaker and weaker and now there is almos no heat. What could be wrong that both of these are going south at the same time?

This is my first bimmer so pics and diagrams of what to check would be very useful. Also if you guys can recommend any good manuals I will definitively need to get one.

Thanks,

Rafal

For the control only working on four it is your resistor pack. Never done it but apparently really easy to replace. Im not sure why your heat would be getting weak. Try replacing that and go from there.

Good luck

Weak as in not as hot? or as in the fan not pushing as much air?

If you mean the air is getting cooler then I would first check your thermostat.

Then its blower fan related.

could be a fuse, resistor, a relay, or the blower motor.

First of all, thanks for all the help.

I got the resistor pack out and cleaned it... it was changed by the previous owner 2 months ago so I figure I give it a good cleaing first. At first it didn't help, but after checking the resistance on the resistors and a second cleaning it started working again. Well, at least I got it to work agin.

Man, is that resistor pack old school or what... LOL.

It seems that the heat is back working again too. I am guessing running or number 4 position it was taking a lot longer to worm up to temperature. However I will keep an eye on it.
