Just bought a white e36, wanna maintain it well

hey guys

i recently bough a 97, alpine white, m-package e36, manual transmission. despite all the new flashy cars out there, i am very much in love with the style and feel of this car, and as it is my first car also, i want to take good care of it. i do not have too much money at the moment, though.
it is in very good shape cosmetically. has minor chips on the front, which i want to fix, and a few mechanical/electrical factors that i am aware of. my question is what is a good starting procedure, and then a regular thing to keep the car running and looking smooth. i don't mind doing the work, but i doubt i will meddle with electronics or complicated mechanic structures -- don't have many tools either. i intend on driving it in the winter.
