"De-flapping" stock E36 exhaust

I got a 98 328i and am wondering if anyone has successfully de-flapped their exhaust (vacuum pressure sensitive flap in right exhaust tip). Normally I wouldn't care but now when I put it to the floor, my exhaust 'whistles' until that point when the flap opens and the whistling stops immediately. I wanted to just hack it off but then I realized the pressure sensor is connected to the engine and is actually more complicated than an actuating flap. I saw a video of an E36 with a 'de-flapped' exhaust and it sounded pretty good.

Any thoughts, experiences?

I believe this is called the Golf tee mod.

... you pull a vac line and plug a golf tee in it, iirc.

Is this only for 328s? My exhaust sounds "de-flapped" or like SOMETHING has been done to it to make it sound weird (could be all that rust making a hole? lol), but as far as I can tell it's stock.

This won't affect the engine in any way? Would this require me to drop the exhaust? What does iirc mean?

I don't think so, but search Golf tee mod. If I Remember Correctly.

Anyone got a DIY or something? I searched only to find a lot of people talking about the E36 de-flapping but no one mentions how to perform it.

I'm pretty sure someone on this board has done it before, and i remember them mentioning that the engine ran funny.
You basically take the vaccume line off the exhaust and just plug it with a golf tee. Thats all you really need to do!

Exclamation Don't Do It !

My exhaust recently broke (flap stuck in the open position).
The car was waaaay down on power + sounded crap.
Please don't do this.....you'll end up needing a new exhaust...flap can't be fixed.

Aright screw this mod. I knew it was going to affect the engine in some way because according to the parts diagrams, they are connected
