I have 6x9 alpine type Rs in the back. used that exact same adapter and it works flawlessly, best audio upgrade for the e36, so good that I've taken out my sub after.

yea the opening in the rear deck isn't as big as the speaker but it doesn't cause any muffling if thats what you're worried about. Also, the speaker sits a bit lower in the trunk since the adapter has some depth to it.

unless you're handy with mdf then probably not. there are pre drilled mounting holes in that adapter designed for 6x9s. I'd invest in 6x9's anyway since you have the adapter.

Get DLS 6x9's

They're the best. Period. But you'll need a very powerful amplifier for them.

I just use the top from the stock HK 6x9's. Didn't need any adapters.

If you have the HK Speaker option then you already have 6x9's in the back. If not you have a 5-6" speaker in the back I believe.

So if you have the 6x9's, you can just use the top of the casing as an adapter. Aftermarket speakers will bolt right up to them.

thats a great idea getting an adaptor for the speakers. In the back of the TI we got screwed even worse because we only have 4" speakers. imagine...tsss

I need to find an adaptor for that bigtime.
