Well IT IS.

Go BMW! It's nice to know it ranks fairly high.

I'm disappointed by VW.. it’s below Hyundai, GM, Chrysler. At least Audi is separated from VW by a larger margin.

It makes you wonder about general statements about how Acura suck, or Jap crap that we’ve seen. Ummm.

Glad to see BMW has a good quality rating though!!

that list is total bull....how about a maxbimmer group buy, well all trade in for KIAs????

it makes no sense at all there shouldnt be a margin between audi and vw, id like to know exactly how they figure that out, they must be going off of brand new models of the automakers. which is not where to start research on reliablity, the past is a good start...........

Huh? I think you read it the wrong way. Higher number means it's worse, not better. At the top it says number of reported problems. So KIA is the shittest car going by that list.

You have to remember the origin of the term "lies, damn lies, and statistics". Statistics can be made to show anything you want, taken from the right sample.

Just because a newspaper prints some stats of vehicle reliability, it doesn't mean any of those vehicles are any more reliable than the others. What it means is that the owners of those vehicles reported more problems than others.

The problems could be minor (squeaks and rattles) vs major engine failure.

It also doesn't take into account the maintenance of each individual vehicle, which goes a long way to determining the overall reliability of the vehicle. Most people have a vague notion of when to change their oil (or to even check it), check tire pressures, check fluids etc. So, the car gets poorly maintained, and they blame the manufacturer for defects.

Unfortunately cars aren't toasters, and wear and tear does occur.

That is so true, from annual reports of a corporation and prospectus to polls, statistics can be manipulated. Enron is a good example of this. Manipulation of statistics to suit a certain agenda is common and most of the time is also legal if done right.

Also, I think some of these guys are very biased. Think about it, Acura more reliable than Honda? WTF is that? It's well known that Acura and Honda share the same chassis, engines and almost all their parts except maybe different trims and lights, does this make the car more or less reliable? BS! In Japan remember that Lexus, Acura, Infinity do not exists. They were created here in North America simply to seperate the more expensive Honda, Toyota and Nissan car's into different categories, so your some how fooled into thinking you've purchased a better car.

Lastly, I don't know how reliable Porsche's actually are. The number of problems and reported complaints may be low simply because owners don't put a lot of milage on those cars. My uncle doesn't drive it in the rain, snow or even in muggy weather. But I've heard about Porsches that have recently been rebuilt that had a previous milage of 300,000+km's. If Porsche is as reliable as this survey says it is. Then Porsche is simply the best car in the world!

Results were posted by J.D. Power and Assoc., which does everything from baby diapers to I think builders of the houses.

Pat, you are right, they count everything, from wind noise to engine failures.

Personally i don't know how BMW ended up being #3 considering 7 series and engine failures of the m3
