Yup Publix is like Sobey's.

Walmart, Target, BJs, Costco, and a few other small ones I'm still finding that even without the exchange rate most things are priced higher. No big deal thou, was expecting some things to be cheaper. Also any type of "international" isle food is definitely higher. Think I paid $5 for a small bottle of sriracha hot sauce, couldn't even find it at Walmart or Publix.

Interesting ... Have always thought of making the move to a warmer place. Wife is American, shouldn't be too hard. 😝. How's the transition?

the usa is an incredibly safe place to live period.

the crime rate in the usa is about double what it is in canada
the crime rate in the canada is about double what it is in germany

everything is relative, but by any standards all these countries are incredibly safe.

Is anywhere really 100% safe?

With the recent attacks in Orlando, FL; Nice, FR; Brussels, BE. Something bad can happen anywhere...

Canada isn't immune, there have been several plots in the past, the good thing was they were mostly foiled before they could be carried out.

Re:costs : they seem to balance out between both countries* our real estate bubble aside *. You get hit with some things here and somethings there.

SiR,

i'm trying to stay optimistic that its a bubble too. the facts seem to argue otherwise though:

that's why it wont happen. if the real estate market corrects even 15% you (and me) will immediately buy real estate. that'll drive the price back up.

toronto real estate is expensive because rich people want to live here and are willing to pay top $. that's not a bubble, that's a high value commodity.
