I think a lot if shops stay away from these swaps, because it's hard to know what you're getting into. There is no way they can guarantee anything or even quote that job.
Swapping in a race engine that they source is very different than a customer showing up with their used project engine from who knows where or what condition it's in.
You can't quote the job, so how do you pay? What parts are required along the way? How does the shop maintain any integrity when the engine is a POS and doesn't run properly and you've run out of money, or short cut on parts with used crap.

My Issue is not turning down the job how it was expressed is what set it off. You can simply turn down a job or differ a date as to when you can accept a job or refer to another shop if you don't even want to take on the job. You are correct in a sense many might show up with an engine not knowing what they are getting or what parts are required for the swap. Not everyone is close minded like that. a proper compression test was conducted on the motor and I know exactly what this swap requires.

S52 swaps have been done in E36's many times over the years and its nothing new. As a matter of fact its the most common swap for a non M. It is a complete drop out and drop in with ECU, DME, Cluster, transmission etc all available to be swapped.

I would understand if they didn't want to do an S54 swap or do a Frankenstein motor swap. Once again nothing personal against any maxbimmer members here and for those of you who service and do your work at RMP all the best.

However my expectation was certainly not meet.

Fair enough...

Let's move on and find a shop that can help you out!
If I get any feedback, I'll post it.

This post makes me wonder if it's worth being a sponsor on a forum like this anymore. Does this type of sponsorship gain more noticeable business.
