1. Do the lights on your dash light up? Or is there just nothing?
2. If the lights on the dash do light up, when you turn the key do you hear a machine-gunning kind of noise (kinda like tk-tk-tk-tk-tk rapidly), or do you hear a single click from the engine bay?
3. Does it crank at all or super low, or just once?

That'll help us know if you've got a sensor issue (CPS) or a dead battery/bad ground/dead starter situation

Check your grounds. Maybe your ground strap from the engine to the chassis is corroded. Same thing happened to me. I think on the E36 it's from the passenger side engine mount arm to the body somewhere.

Test it by attaching a jumper cable from the engine mount arm to the chassis (ideally some exposed metal like something on the shock tower, or the subframe or something) and see if it cranks. Make sure it's the same cable your attaching at both ends haha.

If it does crank then, it's your ground. That's how i diagnosed my issue.
Those cables are cheap and tend to corrode and stop working randomly.
