1996 328i sedan - babied, LSD, many upgrades

Up for sale is my 328i. It has been very well cared for its whole life and has some very desirable (but modest) performance and aesthetic upgrades. I am the third owner and have enjoyed it for three years. I am in Ottawa but bought it from a MaxBimmer member north of Toronto.

The second owner bought it with 20,000km and maintained it and upgraded it with care over his 200,000km ownership. I have done a lot of additional maintenance and upgrades to ensure the car is very reliable and rock solid. It handles great but is still very smooth to drive (BMW really nailed the ride/handling balance with the E36).

Overview
1996 BMW 328i sedan
241,000kms
Swartz II (non-metallic) Black on tan leather - Original paint. Leather is in excellent condition
Manual transmission
2.8 litre straight six

Highlights (anything noted as new has been done under my ownership over the last 20,000km or less):

Engine/Drivetrain/Exhaust
-new(er) M52 engine with about 155km (excellent compression) – old engine overheated
-new water pump (with metal impeller), factory radiator and coolant expansion tank
-fan delete mod
-BMW M50 intake manifold with new retrofit kit (great top end power)
-BMW aluminum thermostat housing with new t-stat
-new K&N panel air filter
-E36 M3 limited-slip differential (3.15 gearing)
-E36 M3 exhaust

Brakes
-new rotors with Hawk HPS pads
-Bavarian Autosport braided/coated SS brake lines

Suspension
-Bilstein Touring Class struts/shocks with H&R OE Sport Springs
-new Bavarian Autosport sway bars and bushings
-new front control arms with heavy duty ball joints
-new Powerflex front lower control arm bushings
-M3 strut reinforcement plates
-E36 M3 RSM’s with MZ3 reinforcement plates
-E36 M3 RTAB’s with new Turner Motorsport shims

Exterior
-E36 M3 front bumper (aftermarket, excellent quality)
-E36 M3 side mirrors (aftermarket, excellent quality)
-E36 M3 diffuser (aftermarket)
-E36 M3 side moldings (OEM)

Interior
-BMW CD43 head unit
-new DICE Silverline iPod integration kit (connects to factory CD changer cable)
-new e46 ZHP 5spd M weighted shift knob
-Bavarian Autosport carpets and all-weather rubber floor maps
-New(er) sport package driver’s seat (I found the padding in the original seat too soft)

Lighting
-ZKW projector headlights with 5000K HID low beams (headlights are glass with a clear protective overlay)

Wheels and Tires
-Summer – 16” factory wheels (from a 328is coupe with sport package) with new(er) Yokohama S-drive, 225/50R-16
-Winter – 15” factory (Style 41) wheels with General Altimax Arctic, 205/60R-15

Other notes
-Re-built front calipers (fall 2010)
-Re-built steering rack (fall 2010)
-Newer tie rods
-Recent flushes of coolant, brake, transmission (synthetic) and rear differential (synthetic) fluids
-frequent oil changes (now running Castrol synthetic).

I am asking $5300 and will certify and e-test it.

Please call or email with any questions and thanks for looking.

Yup, that's him (my kids call it Bam Bam due to the license plate).

It's been great (other than a small overheating issue in 2012...), and I'll miss it, but I fell in love with a Dinan-tuned 335i...

I would still be driving that car if I didn't have the opportunity to buy my dad's old car at that time.
It was a fun car to drive and was definitely babied.
Good luck with the sale.

Thanks, and I read about the demise of your dad's 530. So sad!!!

I also forgot to mention that I installed a new front subframe X-brace (from the E36 vert). It really stiffened up the front end.

I'm still kinda bummed about the 530i.
But finding an e39 M5 in excellent condition helps.
