There is an oil manufactured by a company called Elf. They have been around for 10's of years in Europe and is great. The Renault Formula 1 team which won the world championship last year and who also just won the first race for the 2006 season yesterday uses it.

I have partial sponsorship with a company here for Elf oil and will be using it in my turbocharged engine.

Confirmed. North American Castrol Syntec isn't even synthetic by European standards.

That said, I still run it in 5W-50 for winter. In non-synthetic oil left my engine in as good of a state as it is now at 336k, I don't think "almost" synthetic will do any worse. Mobil 1 synthetic for the summer here.

Luis, I would consider your car average milage especially for a BMW engine. IMO higher milage will be 300K and up. Running Synthetic in your car sould be fine. The olny concern you should have is oil leaks. If you have a leak it will get worse since synthetic oil removes dirt and sludge form your engine. If you had a slight leak, it will romove stuff which will cause it to leak more.

I think now would be the best time for you to start using synthetic oil.
