cold start

hey all, little help pls.i have a 2006 330xi and im having cold start issues.after it sits overnight and i start the car up it sputters and sometimes stalls and i smell rich fuel.i brought it to a reputable bmw mechanic to book an appt and at that time he thought it might be carbon build up on the intake valve.now after he had the car he says its the vanos solenoids. so i have him just do oil, plugs, and all the filters cause i want to ask around before i spend $245 x2 a piece for vanos and that not be the problem.any help would be grateful..,thx

Is the fuel smell present all the time? Or just now? Could be your fuel sender unit leaking, you will constantly have a strong smell of fuel from the rear, comes with difficult starts

Your vanos could be jamming up, however, the solenoids can be removed and cleaned.
