When I bought my M5 1 year and few months ago, I paid taxes on my purchase price which was lower than what they were averaging selling for.

Since it changes with time/make/model/year, unless some knows from getting one recently, their advice will be out of date. I recommend getting the UVIP, the exact value will be listed there. Get a bill of sale if the price you paid is less, you'll need proof to pay tax on that. If the price is more then the value then *accidentally misplace the bill of sale and you'll pay the value in the UVIP.

^^

I understand how the process works, just want to know ahead of time. Is there a site (with access) that anyone knows that shows the mto black book value?

Thought the UVIP just shows the past owners/liens?

UVIP shows the Wholesale and Retail values. If your bill of sale is LESS then the WHOLESALE value then you will pay tax on Wholesale value.

my 2001 530 did not have an MTO value. I'm guessing the M5 is even rarer hence no value.

Always go in with a low receipt, take your chances.

If the UVIP does not show the value, then that's $20 down the drain.

I'll find out tomorrow what the whole sale prices are on both.

Thanks,

I've bought 6 cars over the years and alwasy paid tax based on the purchase price thats written in the bill of sale and not whats listed in their book. Last car was purchased in Set '10 .

Once they tried to BS me into paying over $1600 on a car(they had it listed in their book for $13000 or so) but I simply told them that the car is in a REALLY rough shape/needs alot of work and thats why I bought it for MUCH less. The book gives values of car in a relatively good condition.

The bill of sale had a sell price written with both my and the sellers signatures. You cant argue if the seller signed it and they didnt, I paid $250 tax.
