Thanks, at that last meeting all you 7 guys seemed to talk about this forum so I figured its time to give it a shot. Looks like we need some more local 8's to join as I think this is the only 8 post...

I want an 840CI between to years 1997 - 1999. Manual would be my first choice however how fussy can one be if they want to own one of these classics.
All of your cars look great

Hey, sorry to burst your bubble of a standard 840 but BMW never produced one for the north American market and only a few Euro specs were loaded with them. I would suggest you Google the name Wuffer, he is the Canadian Guru out in B.C. This man is real down to earth and has tabs on most of the 8's imported to Canada. His website is also loaded with buyers guides and any documents you may ever need. Good luck with the hunt, we are always looking for more 8ers in Toronto.

Thanks for the info. I'm sad to hear the manual trans was not offered to the North American market.

This does not mean you could not do a conversion or import one yourself. There are a lot of j spec and euro spec 8's in Canada so bringing in what you want is doable if you find the right one.

Guys,
what do you think an '91 850i with around 100,000km would be worth? I'm a little itchy of getting one and maybe joining the club...
Cheers,

need more info on condition you want, would it have service records, any damage, any work required. you can pick up a cheap car in need of work for around 7-8 grand to a clean one for close to 20. This is not a car you should pick up cheap because the cost of parts will add up fast. Buy the best car you can afford, and don't be afraid to ask an 8 guy to go over the car for you or use wuffers buyers guide.

Hi Winks,
thanks for the reply - it definitely maks sense. I'm just getting started in figuring things out, but I'm in no rush, so I'll definitely do my homework.
One question, regarding 840i vs 850i... To me 850i sounds cool and a little more power never hurts, but then, I'm sure it's heavier and more hungry, so what's the main thing you get in an 850i vs 840i? Is there anything tangible that's definitely better or will it be more of a personal feel and preference thing? It may be a convoluted question, but I think you'll understand what I'm getting at...
Thanks again!

The 850 is marginally more responsive and definitely more thirsty than the 840. As a novelty it's nice to own a V12 Bimmer.
Take the time to do your research. Come spring/summer time you'll see more e31s for sale. At the same time you could also take advantage when "GTA 8ers" get together. There you can ask questions and take a glimpse of what you're getting in to.

The mention of the V12 seems to scare the hell out of people. I've had mine for a while now and I track it and it's been a joy. There is more info and it's updated more often @ bimmerforums as the 8er community is more active over there. When we have a meet, any visitors are always welcome.. last time we joined with a few 7ers and a bunch of audi S4 owners.

If I can find a nice 8 series that won't break the bank I'll be all over it.
If I find a car are there any 8 owners in the GTA that wouldn't mind looking at the car with me? You would know better then me what to look out for.
