What the Heck?

Talked to this guy at Turn 6 Tuning and he gave me a quote to have my parking brake fixed. Said that he had to replace the backing plates and altogether including labour would be about 5-600 dollars to do. This guy is a sheister and I'm not too sure what a backing plate is, anyhoo, am I getting my leg pulled through the dirt or is the what its gonna cost??

Backing plate for a parking brake?

You better call the guy back and ask for more details.

It could be $500-$600 depending on the car (replacing entire parking brake assy.). What is the make/model/year of car you're talking about?

It sounds fishy, moreso because you refer to the guy as a sheister.

I have a 1990 325is and he said that the backing plate is what covers the shoes, and it is rusted out and needs replacing in order for the brake to work, i figured the cable either needed to be replaced or tightened? He is a sheister because he told me i had a leak in my gas tank because gas was flowing out everywhere, anyhoo, he put a new tank in and i went to the gas station and gas started comin out everywhere, pretty sure all along that the fuel hose needed to be replaced not the tank. Anyhoo, something like that should have been diagnose right away and it wasnt, makes me believe that they dont know what they are doing??

Get your car outta there bro.

E30 service at a dealership is NOT expensive. Example: $287.50 + tax to change a timing belt - Parts & Labour included!

The guys could be right.
My backing plates are also ****ed.. The holes where the hold down springs go are rusted out. Right now there is nothing inside my parking brake, bcus I tried to put it together and the shoes came loose and made noise, so i had to remove them.

Im gotta change my backing plates also. It is alot of work to change em, but u gotta take off the hub, since ur doing that u might as well replace the wheel bearings.

But he could not be lying......there is such a thing as a backing plate......and it holds together all the springs that holds the parking brake shoes.
