re Check the trunk...

Check the rear for diff mount and subframe tears and broken welds.

http://www.thelargeglass.com/bmw/subframe/

A fair number of cases. Affects all Z3s. Adding additional power will provoke the problem. I'm sure Tom will give us the technical details.

Manimillion, the car I PMed you about was fixed by BMW.

I had to get mine fixed. The trunk floor tore right out along with the rear differential mount and the rear swaybar mount.

There is a guy in Ohio (Randy Forbes) that makes a laser-cut re-enforcement kit which also allows to have the e36 style dual differential ear cover utilized on the z3. Also the entire rear end and trunk floor are strengthened.

Rocco did a great job on this. I'm sure he has pictures and they can be posted. Regardless of which Z3 (even the 1.9s) had this problem. Even the newer S54 M roadsters and coupes.

Regards,

T.

Yes that is correct. But S/C is always an option too.

There aren't any S54 turbo kits around yet? I'm out of the loop, but I know some were in development from a while back.

There is one turbo kit that is coming out but its a risk people will have to take since reliability will be a major concern. Also alot of people are claiming that the kit cant be producing that type of power. But the main fact is that it isnt proven.

If you say you would go S/C I would definatly get the S54 and a AA stg 3+ lol. Also VF just came out with a kit and TECHNIK is in the making of theirs also. So the good news is that S/C kit prices might go down because of all the competition all of a sudden.

yes, its a very common problem... more so on the more powerful models but even exists on the 1.9L z3 96+.

Just get an e30 M3 and be done with it

Go for the M coupe definatly just get it checked out and take the precautions when you start modding it.

I almost bought one myself a 1999 black one that had a bunch of mods and so on. ACS kit and rims and everything a tastefully done up M coupe should have. It was for sale here about a year and a half ago. But the timing was wrong.

Plus barely anyone has a done up M coupe here with FI so definatly do it.
